Botulinum toxin A is the active ingredient of both Dysport and Botox. The diluted Botulinum toxin A relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, decreasing unsightly lines. Allergan, the company behind Botox®, has enjoyed an unrivaled market for years, repeatedly raising its prices every year. Even the recent downturn in the economy has not seemed to diminish the need for this luxury item. "Interestingly the number of Botox® requests has increased in recent months," explains Dr. Payman Simoni, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. "As more people cannot afford costly surgical procedures, a temporary yet affordable fix has become more attractive," he said.
