WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Hope Paige Designs, a national best selling medical bracelet company unveiled its newest product today. The THUMBAND, a silicone band worn on the thumb, promotes safe texting. Each band has a slogan reminding the wearer to text safely.

The dangers of texting while driving have been well documented. Studies by Car and Driver have shown that texting while driving is more dangerous than drunken driving.  It is the same as driving after consuming 4 beers. The Virginia Tech Driving Institute states that drivers are 23 times more likely to crash.  OSHA reports "DOT reports that in 2009, more than 5,400 people died in crashes linked to distraction and thousands more were injured. "Texting while driving" has become such a prominent hazard that 30 states now ban text messaging for all drivers."  Even texting while walking has received a great deal of attention after a mall employee walked straight into a fountain while texting.

The data is well documented, but still many people feel they can drive and text safely. This new product, worn on the most important texting digit, the thumb, is a reminder to text safely. Sayings on the bands include "TXTING KILLS", "THUMB",  "LIVE LONG" and "I'M SAFE".

Hope Paige president Shelly Fisher said, "We always look for ideas to help others. Often people start products that have touched a member of their personal community. We try to promote products that do not necessarily benefit any of us directly but the country as a whole. We saw the show on THe Oprah Show about the NO PHONE ZONE pledge, and the dangers of distracted driving.  It motivated us to get involved and promote safe driving. If we save even one life, or make someone stop and think, t
