Missouri Stop-Sale System Achieves Significant Results In Battle Against Meth
Date:7/9/2012

LUTHERVILLE, Md., July 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion – today lauded the latest results achieved by the real-time, stop-sale system in Missouri.  Data released by the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) for the first six months of 2012 shows electronic technology in the Show Me State blocked the sale of more than 22,000 boxes of medicine containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) preventing more than 54,000 grams from potentially being diverted by meth criminals.

"Missouri's real-time, stop-sale technology is blocking thousands of unlawful pseudoephedrine sales each month and providing law enforcement with instantaneous and valuable data," said Charles F. Cichon, executive director of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI).  "In addition to providing law enforcement and retailers with a critical tool in the fight against meth production, the technology also ensures law-abiding Missourians will continue to have access to the popular cold and allergy medicines they rely on for relief."
