Millennium Pharmacy Adds First Client in New England
Date:11/17/2009

CHICAGO, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Knollwood Nursing Center at Briarwood, a skilled nursing facility in Worcester, Massachusetts, has contracted with Millennium Pharmacy Systems for pharmacy services to its residents. Knollwood's decision launches Millennium's expansion into the New England market.

Traditional pharmacy services in nursing homes environments package medications in thirty-day supplies and require a time-consuming manual process of managing medications. However, Knollwood will now receive Millennium's unique 3- and 4-day packaging designed to reduce medication waste from frequently changed or discontinued prescriptions common to nursing facilities. Millennium will also install an on-site , secure, medication cabinet to give Knollwood nurses immediate access to medications needed for late night admissions and emergencies. Knollwood will implement Millennium's proprietary software system using laptops attached to medication carts and eliminate paper processing of documentation. This solution will drive online ordering, verification and documentation of accurate administration, and real-time reporting.

Millennium Pharmacy Systems has established a sixth pharmacy location in Smithfield, Rhode Island which will service nursing homes in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and north eastern Connecticut. "We heard from many in the industry that nursing facilities in New England were ready for alternatives to their pharmacy suppliers. We studied the market and decided to invest in the region. It was clear the market was ready for a different approach, and we are confident we have the best solution for nursing homes to provide top quality care, improve compliance, and control costs. I'm delighted Knollwood shares that belief," stated Millennium CEO, Richard Scardina.
