James Slattery launched Millennium Laboratories in late 2006 after a successful career that encompassed broadcast communications and real estate development.  Under his direction as chief executive officer in less than five years the company has built a solid reputation as a leader in pain management services, setting industry standards in drug testing and reporting, clinical research and education.  A national network of physicians now uses Millennium Laboratories' services to increase patient safety and improve patient care for people experiencing chronic pain.

Millennium Laboratories is certified as a training facility for clinical toxicologist scientists and operates as a unique research component of the University of California, San Diego's (UCSD) doctoral program in Pharmacy. In 2010 the company established the Millennium Research Institute, a national, non-profit center that conducts and disseminates original research focused on improving the experiences of people suffering from pain and pain-related disorders.

Millennium CEO James Slattery noted, "I am honored to have been selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award program. As a values-based organization, Millennium Laboratories places the needs of our physician network and their patients first. This is the cornerstone of our success and our reputation. The Ernst & Young acknowledgement is a direct outgrowth of the hard work, integrity and commitment to excellence of everyone on the Millennium team in establishing the gold standard in prescription drug monitoring."
