Methadone Frequently Causes Menopausal Symptoms in Young Women
Date:5/7/2009

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Methadone medication frequently depresses estradiol, progesterone and testosterone hormone levels to menopausal levels, even in women less than thirty years old. Hormonal suppression, caused by methadone, can cause depression, anxiety, fatigue, weight gain, bone loss, bladder pain, decreased pain tolerance, hot flashes, and increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

Dr. Rick Sponaugle, Medical Director of Florida Detox, observed, "Thirty of the last thirty female methadone patients, between 20 and 30 years old, who we detoxed from methadone arrived with estradiol, progesterone or testosterone hormone levels, in the post menopausal range."

A 1975 University of Pennsylvania study revealed severe hormonal suppression caused by narcotic pain medications. Despite this study, most methadone patients report physicians prescribing methadone failed to inform them of hormonal suppression risks caused by methadone. Physicians prescribing methadone, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet, morphine and other opiate pain medications, seldom test or treat patients for hormonal deficiencies caused by these medications.

Although studies reveal methadone and other opiate pain medications do not benefit fibromyalgia patients, physicians frequently prescribe opiate pain medications to fibromyalgia patients. Fibromyalgia patients frequently become addicted to ineffective opiate pain medications, including methadone.

Many methadone patients are unable to persevere through painful methadone withdrawal symptoms, when methadone ceases providing pain relief. Methadone withdrawal symptoms frequently include anxiety, depression, insomnia, chills and sweats, diarrhea, nausea, muscle cramps and tremors and can include potentially deadly, heart rate and blood pressure increases. Depression and fatigue from methadone withdrawal frequently lasts a year, without effective addiction treatment.

Depression, fatigue, anxiety, and insomnia, caused by methadone often decrease rapidly, with bioidentical hormone replacement. Bone density increases exceeding ten percent annually, can be achieved, with hormone replacement, vitamin and mineral supplementation.

Florida Detox and Wellness Institute tests and treats estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid and dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA, hormone deficiencies, caused by opiate pain medication.

Clinical research by Florida Detox and Wellness Institute proves many methadone dependent patients were self medicating pre-existing attention deficit disorders, anxiety and depression, with opiate pain pills. Many methadone patients need treatment for attention deficit disorders, insomnia, depression, anxiety and fatigue, in addition to hormone replacement. Skilled treatment with amino acids, vitamins, minerals, herbals and medications eliminates cravings for opiates.

Florida Detox has perfected scientifically advanced, compassionate, detoxification techniques for methadone, morphine, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet, Norco, Fentanyl, Tramadol, heroin and other opiate drugs. Although many methadone detox programs will not detox patients who use more than 30 milligrams of methadone daily, Florida Detox has safely and successfully detoxed daily methadone doses as high as 2000 milligrams daily. Florida Detox has successfully detoxed over 100 methadone patients who were using over 1000 milligrams of methadone daily

Florida Detox also provides effective medical treatment for alcohol, Xanax, Klonopin, Ambien, Fioricet and Cocaine dependency. Florida Detox has treated over 5,000 patients for chemical dependency.
