Medical Technology Executives Descend on D.C. as AdvaMed 2009: The MedTech Conference Kicks Off and Health Care Debate Continues

WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leaders of the medical technology industry convene today through the 14th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the third annual AdvaMed 2009: The MedTech Conference.

An international mix of medical technology executives, innovators, policymakers, media, and government officials from more than 21 countries and 32 states, are expected to attend this industry-designed conference. Opening today with executive workshops on regulatory compliance, bringing innovative technology to market, and crisis intervention, the conference will continue with 40 plus educational panels covering finance, compliance, quality, legal, regulatory, emerging growth, 21st century healthcare and global business issues. In addition, nearly 50 company presentations featuring innovations from Israel, New Zealand, Germany, the U.K., and states across the U.S. will highlight new science and products in areas such as imaging, neurology, cardiovascular, orthopedics, wound management, and much more.

A vibrant exhibit hall will open Tuesday showcasing "Innovation Alley" with cutting edge medical devices used for surgical intervention, diagnosis, and treatment. In addition to the 60 plus exhibitors, there will be a number of informative programs on the exhibit hall floor as well. The Spotlight Series will feature "CEO Unplugged" where industry leaders are on hand for insightful conversations and Q & A's; the "Global Showcase," where medical technology in other countries is discussed; and an Inside Innovation Spotlight featuring futuristic, cutting-edge medical devices and technology from industry and academia.

Tuesday will also focus on health care reform with a discussion by Stephen Ubl, President and CEO of AdvaMed and AdvaMed Board Chairman, Michael Mussallem, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Edwards Lifesciences.
