Medical Mutual of Ohio Earns a Spot on 2011 InformationWeek 500 List of Top Technology Innovators Across America
Date:9/27/2011

MONARCH BEACH, Calif., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third consecutive year, Medical Mutual of Ohio has made the InformationWeek 500 annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology.

Medical Mutual was honored for development and implementation of its Treatment Cost Estimator, which gives Medical Mutual's customers provider communities real-time cost estimates specific to their coverage plan, accumulated benefits and provider fee schedules before they visit a doctor.

"We are honored that InformationWeek recognizes Medical Mutual's commitment to improvement and innovation based on our customers' needs," said Ken Sidon, Medical Mutual executive vice president, chief information and security officer. "The Treatment Cost Estimator is one example of how Medical Mutual is able to bring technology to the customer through the combination of web, enterprise content and applications in new ways," Sidon said.

A second phase currently being tested, said Sidon, will give members information specific to their in-network doctors and can be accessed directly from the new provider directory and MedMutual.com's My Health Plan to allow for quicker results.

"For 23 years, the InformationWeek 500 has chronicled and honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek Editor In Chief Rob Preston. "In this day and age, however, being innovative isn't enough. Companies and their IT organizations need to innovate faster than ever before to stay a step or two ahead of their customers, partners, and competitors. This year's ranking placed special emphasis on those high-octane business technology innovators."

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies.  Top winners have included:  The Vanguard Group, CME Group, Conway, National Semiconductor, Kimberly-Clark, Hilton Hotels and Unum.  The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spender.
