Medical Device Daily Wins Prestigious SIPA Award for Outstanding Business Journalism
Date:7/13/2012

ATLANTA, July 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AHC Media's Medical Device Daily, announced today that its report titled "Medical Device Daily's 510(k) Regulatory Pathway: How Coming Changes From the FDA May Profoundly Transform the Med-Tech Sector," won a coveted award from the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) in the Best Single Topic category.

The 37 page winning white paper explains how ongoing review of the FDA's 510(k) program for medical devices promises to clamp down on a regulatory path that device investors generally have regarded as a lower-cost, faster-paced path to commercialization for portfolio companies. The self-analysis by the agency — combined with an external review by the Institute of Medicine in Washington — likely will steer some future 510(k) devices over to the more stringent and costly PMA path, but can venture capital investors and their companies afford the switch?

The report was an updated and edited collection of Medical Device Daily news stories on the topic. Medical Device Daily Executive Editor Holland Johnson, Washington Editor Mark McCarty, Staff Writers Omar Ford and Amanda Pedersen, and Production Editor Robert Kimball contributed to the series.

The awards continue a tradition of content excellence as AHC Media has accumulated the second-highest number of SIPA journalism awards of any company over the past three decades.
