Lo studio pubblicato su European Radiology esalta ulteriormente l'utilizzo della tomosintesi al seno di Hologic nell'ambito dello screening del cancro con utilizzo della doppia lettura

a doppia lettura della mammografia 2D con la doppia lettura della mammografia 2D abbinata alla tomosintesi.

I ricercatori hanno utilizzato la tecnologia della tomosintesi al seno di Hologic per lo screening del cancro e hanno concluso che:

  • Lo screening basato sulla tomosintesi è stato applicato con successo in un grande trial di screening prospettico.
  • La doppia lettura degli esami basati sulla tomosintesi ha ridotto in maniera significativa le interpretazioni di falsi positivi. Le interpretazioni di falsi positivi sono diminuite del 18% con l'utilizzo di 2D abbinato a tomosintesi.
  • La doppia lettura degli esami basati sulla tomosintesi ha aumentato in maniera significativa  il rilevamento di cancro al seno di circa il 30%. La rilevazione di cancri invasivi è aumentata di circa il 40%.
  • "È molto incoraggiante, sebbene non mi sorprenda, vedere la conferma dei grandi vantaggi che la nostra tecnologia di tomosintesi può apportare agli utenti di diversi ambienti clinici", ha affermato Peter Soltani , Vicepresidente Senior di Hologic e Direttore Generale della divisione Salute del Seno. "I dati di Oslo indicano chiaramente che la doppia lettura del 2D abbinata all'imaging di tomosintesi porta ad un forte aumento nella rilevazione di cancri invasivi e ad una riduzione di falsi positivi rispetto alle sole doppie letture 2D. Questo studio avvalora i risultati di un precedente studio sulla misurazione dei vantaggi della tomosintesi a unica lettura e dimostra che la tomosintesi offre importanti miglioramenti nello screening del cancro al seno con entrambi i metodi di screening a singola e doppia lettura.
