Lo studio pubblicato su European Radiology esalta ulteriormente l'utilizzo della tomosintesi al seno di Hologic nell'ambito dello screening del cancro con utilizzo della doppia lettura

(Hologic o la Società) (NASDAQ: HOLX), leader nello sviluppo, nella produzione e nella fornitura di sistemi diagnostici e medici di acquisizione delle immagini e di prodotti chirurgici di alta qualità al servizio delle esigenze sanitarie delle donne, ha annunciato oggi  che un nuovo studio, pubblicato online prima di essere stampato su European Radiology, esalta l'utilizzo della tomosintesi al seno in combinazione con l'imaging convenzionale (2D) nei programmi di screening del cancro al seno con doppia lettura indipendente e arbitrato.

Lo studio, "Prospective Trial Comparing Full-field Digital Mammography (FFDM) versus Combined FFDM and Tomosynthesis in a Population-based Screening Programme Using Independent Double Reading with Arbitration" (Trial Prospettico che Confronta la Mammografia Digitale a Pieno Campo (FFDM) con la Mammografia Digitale Abbinata alla Tomosintesi in un Programma di Screening sulla Popolazione Utilizzando Doppia Lettura Indipendente con Arbitrato), è stato condotto da Per Skaane, M.D., Ph.D. dell'Ospedale Universitario Ullevaal di Oslo.[1] L'analisi ha incluso un totale di 12.621 esami di screening di donne che hanno partecipato al trial di screening sulla tomosintesi di Oslo. Nella doppia lettura, due radiologi leggono autonomamente lo stesso caso e se non sono concordi sulla diagnosi, ha luogo un incontro di arbitrato o raggiungimento del consenso in cui viene decisa la diagnosi finale relativa al caso. È stato dimostrato che la doppia lettura aumenta la rilevazione del cancro ed è il metodo standard utilizzato per l'interpretazione delle mammografie nella maggior parte dei Paesi fuori dagli Stati Uniti con programmi di screening organizzati sulla popolazione.
