MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Omnicell, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMCL), a leading provider of medication and supply chain management solutions to healthcare facilities, today announced its support for the emerging healthcare industry adoption of GS1 standards. GS1 is an international association dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of healthcare supply chains. GS1 is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world, facilitating improved business processes, product tracking and patient safety across a health network.

Utilizing industry product barcode standards, Omnicell's GS1-capable OptiFlex™ inventory management system streamlines the hospital supply chain process to ensure that medical-surgical supplies are tracked accurately all the way to the patient's bedside.

Omnicell's WorkflowRx™ software, which automates inventory management for the entire central pharmacy, is also compliant with GS1 standards. WorkflowRx streamlines pharmacy operations by integrating product labeling as part of the receiving, stocking, picking and returning activities. WorkflowRx helps boost productivity, reduce inventory costs and ensures that the right medications reach the right patient.

In late 2010, five of the nation's most prominent healthcare systems formed a partnership, Healthcare Transformation Group (HTG), to share best practices and accelerate the implementation of GS1 Standards. Charter HTG members, Ge
