Acerca del programa Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón

Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón es un programa educativo de Merck para ayudar a crear conciencia entre los hispanos en Estados Unidos que padecen diabetes tipo 2, a fin de que comprendan mejor la importancia del tratamiento de esta afección, incluso tener una alimentación saludable y establecer objetivos personalizados para el ABC de la diabetes: A de A1C o glucemia, B de Buena presión arterial y C de Colesterol, con el objetivo de reducir el riesgo de tener complicaciones graves, como enfermedades cardíacas y accidentes cerebrovasculares. El programa ofrece recursos bilingües para las personas con diabetes tipo 2, sus familias y las personas a cargo de su cuidado. Se incluyen deliciosas recetas para diabéticos y toda la familia, consejos para tener un estilo de vida más saludable y seguir disfrutando de muchos de los alimentos y actividades que realizan, además de ejemplos de preguntas para realizar a los médicos acerca del tratamiento de la diabetes tipo 2.

Acerca de la diabetes tipo 2

Cuando una persona padece diabetes tipo 2, su cuerpo no produce suficiente insulina o la insulina que produce no funciona como debería. Esto hace que los niveles de glucemia se vuelvan demasiado altos y, además, es posible que el cuerpo siga produciendo glucosa aunque no la necesite. Una vez que una persona tiene diabetes tipo 2, esto es irreversible. Con el tiempo, puede generar complicaciones graves, como enfermedades cardíacas y accidente cerebrovascular.
