Journal Article Suggests DermaClose® RC Used in Combination With VAC Therapy Can Dramatically Reduce the Need for Skin Grafting of Fasciotomy Wounds for Combat Related Trauma
Date:3/22/2012

CHANHASSEN, Minn., March 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Wound Care Technologies, Inc. (www.dermaclose.com), an emerging medical technology company, today announced the publication of an invited review article by MAJ Benjamin K. Potter, MD, LTC Brett A. Freedman, MD, and Michael S. Shuler, MD, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, describing their treatment for closing extremity fasciotomy wounds using the DermaClose® RC Continuous External Tissue Expander as it applies to the treatment of traumatic war injuries.

The article entitled, "Fasciotomy Wound Management and Closure" appears in the current issue of Techniques in Orthopedics® (Volume 27, Number 1, Lippincott Williams & Wolters, www.techortho.com). The authors describe how the use of vacuum-assisted closure (V.A.C., Kinetic Concepts, Inc., San Antonio, TX) in combination with dermatotraction is their preferred method to positively influence the rate of delayed primary closure of extremity fasciotomy wounds. Paul J. Anderson, President and CEO of Wound Care Technologies, Inc. said, "Thi speer reviewed published article continues to demonstrate the significant role of continuous external tissue expansion in the treatment of traumatic injuries".

About DermaClose RC®
DermaClose® RC is a continuous external tissue expander that facilitates rapid tissue movement to reduce or re-approximate wounds. The first-of-its-kind device utilizes skin anchors and a tension controller that applies a continuous controlled dynamic pulling force and does not require additional tightening after initial application. The tension will be maintained from hours to days
