Date:2/27/2013

BARCELONA, Spain, February 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Ixonos helps Firstbeat Technologies to develop a new, highly improved version of their Bodyguard R-R interval recording device for short- and long-term heart beat monitoring in lifestyle assessments. Thanks to several innovations, such as automatic start up and comfortable design provided by Ixonos, the new device has a significantly improved user experience.

"The new design, which we developed for Firstbeat, is the most advanced device for lifestyle assessments when considering user experience and reliability," says Antti Vuolli, Director, Chipset and Embedded, Ixonos. "The design has gone through extreme testing process, which ensures that the device works flawlessly: whatever the skin type, any possible skin movement during exercise, even in harsh weather conditions," Vuolli continues.

One of the inventions that Ixonos provided for the new device is the automatic start-up. As the device starts automatically when it is attached to the skin, there is no risk for losing measurement data because of oblivion. Ixonos also optimized the file management system to improve the data transfer via USB by 400%. Consumers can now transfer their data in a snap to their computer for analysis. "When Firstbeat's unique software algorithm was transferred to the embedded world, together with the customer, Ixonos was able to make it run one hundred times faster. This is vital for low power consumption and long operating time in a small device," explains Ismo Pellikka , HW Project Manager, Ixonos.

"Firstbeat chose Ixonos as its partner due to its experience in the field of electronics and embedded

software. The collaboration with Ixonos has been simply excellent. Ixonos has a broad set of skills in-house and they have shown great attitude in solving problems and making our product come true," Joni Kettunen , CEO, Firstbeat says. "The attitude is what counts to us the most - the true desire to make the product fulfill its expectations. For organizations of our size, the availability of different skills (mechanics, electronics, software, design) as integrated in the same project has been very positive since it has saved us a lot of effort," Kettunen concludes.
