Es ist eine hervorragende Neuigkeit, dass NICE jetzt eine Leitlinie veröffentlicht hat, die die neusten wissenschaftlichen Beweise zur SIRT beim HCC unterstützt und dies sollte sicherstellen, dass passende Patienten beim NHS Zugang zur SIRT haben. Ich hoffe, daß in Folge dessen "Verordnung nach Postleitzahl" und Behandlungsverzögerungen aufgrund von langwierigen Finanzierungsanträgen und Genehmigungsprozessen kein Problem mehr für die Behandlung geeigneter NHS-Patienten mit SIRT darstellen werden'’

Über das Hepatuzelluläre Karzinom

Das hepatozelluläre Karzinom (HCC) tritt am häufigsten bei Personen auf, deren Leber aufgrund einer vorangegangen Virusinfektion oder Alkoholmissbrauch stark geschädigt oder zirrhotisch ist. Mit knapp 750.000 diagnostizierten Fällen pro Jahr zählt das HCC zu den zehn häufigsten Krebsarten weltweit und stellt die dritthäufigste Todesursache unter den Krebserkrankungen dar[2]. In Regionen, in denen Hepatitis am häufigsten diagnostiziert wird, also im asiatisch-pazifischen Raum und in Südeuropa, ist das HCC am weitesten verbreitet.

Das HCC kann nur durch eine Operation, wobei die betroffenen Areale der Leber entweder reseziert oder abladiert werden, oder durch die Transplantation einer Spenderleber geheilt werden. Diese Eingriffe kommen jedoch für die Mehrheit der Patienten nicht in Betracht. Deren Überlebenszeit liegt zwischen einigen Monaten und zwei oder mehr Jahren, abhängig vor allem vom Zustand der Leber zum Zeitpunkt der Diagnose und dem Ausmaß des Tumorbefalls.
