NEUE BRITISCHE LEITLINIE SOLLTE ZUGANG ZU SIR-SPHERES® MICROSPHÄREN BEI PRIMÄREM LEBERKREBS ERLEICHTERN

Das britische National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) hat eine Leitlinie zur routinemäßigen Anwendung von SIRT (Selektive Interne Radiotherapie) bei der Behandlung von Patienten mit primärem Leberkrebs veröffentlicht.[1] Dies ist eine gute Neuigkeit für Patienten, die unter der am weitesten verbreiteten Form von primärem Leberkrebs, dem Hepatozellulärem Karzinom oder HCC, leiden und für die gegenwärtig nur wenige Behandlungsoptionen zur Verfügung stehen.

Die SIRT wird bei der Behandlung von nicht-operablen Lebertumoren eingesetzt, wobei Millionen winziger radioaktiver Mikrosphären über die Arteria hepatica (Blutversorgung) in die Leber injiziert werden. Jede Mikrosphäre ist mit dem Betastrahlen emittierenden Isotop Yttrium-90 beschichtet. Die Tumorzellen werden lokal direkt mit der Strahlung behandelt, gesunde Leberzellen aber geschont. SIR-Spheres Mikrosphären, mit denen eine Form der SIRT durchgeführt wird, sind seit 2002 in Europa zugelassen. Weltweit wurden insgesamt mehr als 35.000 Behandlungen durchgeführt. In Großbritannien erhielten bislang mehr als 500 Patienten diese Behandlung. Die am 24. Juli veröffentlichte NICE Leitlinie bestätigt, daß der wissenschaftliche Beweis für Sicherheit und Wirksamkeit der SIRT für Patienten mit HCC nun in ausreichendem Maße erbracht ist, d.h. dass geeignete Patienten des National Health Service (NHS) jetzt voraussichtlich besseren Zugang zu dieser Behandlung haben.
