HARRISBURG, Pa., March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tristan Associates, a Harrisburg-based radiology practice operating four outpatient imaging centers in Central Pennsylvania, reported today the passing on February 28th of their founder, Theodore Atherton (Ted) Tristan, M.D., at the age of 86.
"Our physicians and staff are all deeply saddened at the loss of our founder, leader, mentor, teacher, colleague, and friend," said Paul DeLoia, Chief Executive Officer. "He was a wonderful man and a huge contributor to the field of radiology."
Dr. Tristan founded Tristan Associates in 1967. In addition to his leadership in local medical imaging, Dr. Tristan's contributions to medicine include radiology research published in more than 100 medical journal articles.
His remarkable career included distinctions as an academic as well as a practitioner, having organized the radiology department at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He also served as the department's interim director in 1970-71 and, as a professor, continued to teach radiology residents there until his retirement.
He began his involvement with radiology during World War II, as an X-ray technician in the U.S. Army. In the 1950s, he also served as a physician and commanding officer at U.S. Army medical facilities in Germany.
