Date:2/24/2010

MARGATE, Fla., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates™, the state's leading provider of advanced reproductive technologies and in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and a member of the IntegraMed® Fertility Network, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with the University of Miami School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Health System to partner with and provide off-site education and training to the OB/GYN residents in the areas of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, as well as Gynecologic surgery.

Under the agreement, Marcelo J. Barrionuevo, M.D., Board Certified specialist in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), will serve as the Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) Residency Program Site Director and manage the residency rotations. Residents' medical education and training will include clinical rotations and surgical procedures, and give residents access to all IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates physicians (Wayne Maxson, MD, David Hoffman, MD, Steven Ory, MD, Marcelo Barrionuevo, MD, Debbra Keegan, MD, Vanessa Weitzman, MD, and Gene Manko, MD), as well as a number of very qualified GYN surgeons from the Memorial Healthcare System Hospitals.

The agreement allows the University of Miami OB/GYN Residents access to a variety of GYN surgeries performed in all the MHS hospitals. During their REI rotation, they will also have access to IVF FLORIDA's extensive and comprehensive fertility practice, Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), and Embryology Laboratory. IVF FLORIDA's ASC and embryology laboratory are equipped with the very latest technology and are fully accredited by AAAHC and College of American Pathologists, respectively. Residents will also gain access to Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility related surgical procedures performed by IVF FLORIDA physicians.

Marcelo J. Barrionuevo, M.D., is Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. He is published in the field, and has over 10 years' experience in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility, pregnancy losses, ovulatory disorders, endometriosis, uterine myomas, reproductive developmental anomalies and other related REI conditions. He joined IVF FLORIDA in July 1998 and became a partner in the practice in 2005. Before joining IVF FLORIDA as an infertility specialist, he served on the faculty of the University of South Florida in Tampa. He also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami School of Medicine.

"We're very pleased to align ourselves with IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates and the Memorial Healthcare System's exceptional team, facilities and reputation they have," said Dr. Joseph A. Lucci, Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Director at the University of Miami School of Medicine. "The agreement enables us to continue supporting our mission to be a premier academic medical institution -- all while expanding residents' exposure and improving teaching opportunities through the affiliation with the teams at IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates and the Memorial Healthcare System."

"This is an exciting opportunity we have with the residents of the University of Miami. Many of the physicians at IVF FLORIDA have a long history of teaching medical students and residents. It seemed to be a natural fit for us to be able to collaborate with the University's existing REI program and provide expanded teaching opportunities to UM residents," said Dr. Barrionuevo. "We provide services to thousands of patients from Florida and around the world each year, which will provide new challenges for each resident so that they can become exceptional physicians with a comprehensive understanding of REI and a broader GYN surgical experience."

"This new relationship will give us the ability to provide additional educational and learning opportunities for the University of Miami OB/GYN residents. Through the exceptional expertise and experience of our staff at IVF FLORIDA, we are excited to be able to provide additional exposure to the residents," said Clayton Lawrence, Vice President and Executive Director of IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates. "IVF FLORIDA and The University of Miami School of Medicine share a common vision in teaching and learning, and by partnering the two organizations, we are confident that patients and residents will be best served. We look forward to working together to elevate the teaching status of the University program."
