CHICAGO, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ICAP Ocean Tomo, the intellectual property brokerage division of ICAP plc (IAP.L), is offering for sale a patent portfolio of active implants for electromagnetic bone and tissue regeneration in orthopedics, trauma, and wound care. Developed by Magentodyn, the portfolio includes over 40 patents and patent applications, and provides coverage in multiple jurisdictions across Europe, Asia, North America, and the rest of the world.
The technology uses extremely low frequency sinusoidal-pulsating electromagnetic fields (SEMF) as a biological regulation system for tissue regeneration, and has the ability to transform a standard inert orthopedic implant for reparation into an active device which stimulates tissue regeneration. The combined use of sinusoidal electric and magnetic fields overcomes the known technical limitations of the accepted, alternative form of this therapy (Pulsating Electro Magnetic Fields or PEMF). The Magnetodyn technology is superior in terms of scope, success rate, and treatment duration. The technology is applicable in multiple markets including orthopedics, trauma, and wound care, and is currently in clinical use in several of these fields.
"The technology covered in the patents opens the door to more efficient, more effective, and more socially acceptable treatment procedures," said Werner Kraus, inventor of the patents and founder of Magnetodyn. "It is one of those rare occasions when significant improvements can be made in patient care whilst at the same time reducing overall cost."
"This technology represents a game changing advance in the field of orthopedic implants and wound care," said Dean Becker, ICAP Ocean Tomo CEO. "This portfolio should be of interest to any medical device company currently working in this sector, or looking to establish a leading position in this rapidly growing field."
