HeartSine® Technologies and the Newtown Township Police Join Forces

NEWTOWN, Pa., Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- HeartSine® Technologies, Inc., a world leader in personal and public access defibrillators, announced today it will work together with the Newtown Township Police Department (Pennsylvania) to help fulfill its goal of having a HeartSine AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in every squad car.

To kick off the collaboration, the company has donated the HeartSine samaritan® PAD 300P Public Access Defibrillator, HeartSine's lifesaving product for the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest.

Police officers are the first responders in cardiac arrest event and often arrive on the scene before emergency medical service (EMS) personnel.  Therefore, it is important that they are prepared to treat individuals suffering from cardiac arrest with equipment designed to save lives.

HeartSine Automated External Defibrillator (AED) products provide clinically advanced, lifesaving SCOPE™ technology in a single, portable unit. The samaritan PAD 300P is designed to treat children and adults. Its simple two-button operation makes it easy to use by rescuers of all skill levels. The unit is completely self-contained. There is no lid to open, complex displays or controls.

"When responding to a cardiac emergency, there is little time to react. The HeartSine samaritan PAD 300P is easy-to-use and reliable. It's also lightweight, meaning it's easy to grab it from our squad cars, so we can administer treatment more quickly," said Paul Deppi, Officer, EMT, Newtown Township, PA Police Department. "The audio and visual prompts on the samaritan PAD make it easy to save a life, and the durability provides me with confidence that the HeartSine AED can perform under any conditions, including extreme temperatures."

Police officers are always on-call, responding to emergencies in a variety of weather and environments. The samaritan PAD has a rating of IP56, providing the samaritan PAD 300P with the highest level of water resistance in the industry.  In loud environments, the audio and visual prompts with clear instructions guide rescuers through every lifesaving step including pad application, shock delivery and CPR.

CPR Heart Starters, Inc. and Safety Training provide the Newtown Township Police Department with one-on-one AED and CPR training. The instructors at CPR Heart Starters have all undergone extensive training in their fields of expertise. The majority of instructors have first hand experience in many emergency situations with careers in nursing, emergency medical services, firefighting and other medically related practices.

"We work with police officers all the time, and we know that they are the ones who arrive first on the scene, before ambulances or emergency personnel.  That is why it's so important to have an AED in their squad cars," said CPR Heart Starters, Inc. Owner Craig S. Spector.  "Because the samaritan PAD 300P is cost-effective, it's much easier for police and fire departments, who are often strapped for additional funds, to afford these lifesaving units."

Unlike competitive products that require separate consumable expiration dates for customers to track and replace, the samaritan PAD 300P is simpler and less costly to maintain. One expiration date on the pads and batteries means less hassle.

"The HeartSine samaritan PAD has the highest clinical standards backed by years of research and innovation. Our superior technology, 10-year warranty and four-year Pad-Pak™ life provides our clients with the power to save a life, at the lowest overall cost of ownership," said Marc Lawrence, HeartSine senior vice president.

"With HeartSine's generous donation of the samaritan PAD and training provided by CPR Heart Starters, Newtown police are well prepared to treat sudden cardiac events in the community or within our own department," said Deppi.
