ote display such as a smart phone, tablet, or computer-based electronic medical record. Since the device requires only one integrated computer chip, a battery and a digital display, it can be designed to conform to any form factor such as a thumb-drive or smart phone.

"Silicon BioDevices' digital technology promises to extend clinical lab-quality testing by caregivers and patients alike to any setting — including the home," explained Gary Stroy , CEO of Silicon BioDevices. "Its ability to extract plasma from whole blood efficiently for both single- and multiple-target testing is a key feature that has limited other POC technologies. This technology has the potential to usher in a whole new era of near-patient testing that will allow many more tests to move from the central lab to the point of care."

Stroy is a medical-device veteran recognized for his pioneering contributions to POC diagnostics. He was the co-founder of LifeScan Inc., the developer of the first personal blood-glucose monitor, sold to Johnson & Johnson for $110 million. Additionally, he helped develop the first blood-coagulation monitor (Biotrack, sold to Ciba Corning ), the first home cholesterol test (ChemTrak) and the first whole blood multi-panel clinical chemistry analyzer (Abaxis).

Silicon BioDevices, Inc.
Silicon BioDevices is applying its fully integrated, instrument-free immunoassay technology to the development of clinical lab-quality, digital diagnostics for the rapid measurement of biomarkers that are critical to life-saving, cost-efficient therapy. The privately held company is developing the first self-contained, "lab-in-your-hand" diagnostic device for high-sensitivity measurement of cardiac troponin that provides clinical lab-quality results within 15 minutes to determine whether or not a patient has experienced a heart attack.
