Grootschalige wereldwijde registratie voor onderzoek naar behandelingspatronen en ziektelast onder patiënten met veneuze trombo-embolie (VTE)

rwaardelijke subsidie van Bayer HealthCare. Het bestaat uit twee grootschalige registers: GARFIELD AF en GARFIELD VTE. Het reële, wereldwijde waarnemingsprogramma streeft ernaar de werkelijke last van deze ziekten te beschrijven, een beter begrip op te bouwen van antitrombotische behandelingspatronen en potentiële mogelijkheden om de zorgverlening en klinische uitkomsten te verbeteren.

GARFIELD AF (atriale fibrillatie) zal het grootste register zijn van AF-patiënten met risico op beroerte. Het zal 50.000 pas geconstateerde AF-patiënten volgen van minstens 1.000 centra in 34 landen in Noord- en Zuid-Amerika, Oost- en West-Europa, Azië, Afrika en Australië. Tot nog toe wijzen resultaten erop dat behandeling met antistollingsmiddelen, met name vitamine K-antagonisten (VKA) waarvan gekend is dat ze beroertes voorkomen, ondergebruikt is bij AF-patiënten met een hoog risico op beroertes en tegelijk overgebruikt wordt bij patiënten met een laag risico.

GARFIELD VTE zal 10.000 patiënten bevatten met acute VTE geïndiceerd voor antistolling, in 500 willekeurig geselecteerde vestigingen, van 20-25 landen in de loop van vier jaar. Het register zal zich concentreren op de duur van de behandeling, de incidentie van complicaties, praktische aspecten, gezondheidseconomie en uitkomstenonderzoek.
