Governor Daniels Signs Into Law Electronic Tracking Bill

WASHINGTON, May 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today released the following statement in response to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels signing into law a bill that requires the state to track all purchases of products containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) in real time allowing retailers and pharmacists to block sales to any individual who exceeds the legal limit:

"Both the executive and legislative branches in Indiana deserve strong praise today for standing up to those who seek to break the law by purchasing safe and effective products containing pseudoephedrine for the sole purpose of producing methamphetamine," said Elizabeth Funderburk, spokesperson for the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA).  "The solution reached puts in place electronic stop sale technology, which will block those seeking to purchase more than the allowable amount of pseudoephedrine-containing cold and allergy medications, while ensuring the law-abiding public has access the medicines they need.  Today's developments in the Hoosier State are a victory for families and workers, and a significant defeat for criminals."
