RA is a chronic disease that leads to inflammation and pain in the human body's joints such as wrists, fingers, knees, feet, and ankles. In addition, it causes inflammation of the tissues that surround the joints and in other organs.

The symptoms of RA begin slowly, usually just mild pain around the joints coupled with stiffness and fatigue, and in the later stages it causes inflammation of the joints. It can occur at any age, even in children, which is called juvenile arthritis. The disease is three times more common in women than in men. Genetic and environmental elements are known to contribute in the development of RA.
