GSMA's Global Mobile Awards To Recognise Mobile Innovation in the mHealth Sector

LONDON, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The GSMA, which represents the interests of the worldwide mobile communications industry, has launched its prestigious 16th Annual Global Mobile Awards programme. New categories have been added to recognise excellence, achievement and innovation in the broad and constantly evolving mobile ecosystem. Specifically, the GSMA will shine a spotlight on innovation in the mobile health – 'mHealth' – space for the first time.

"Health is an area that is seeing great growth in adoption of new devices embedded with mobile technology, allowing innovative applications such as remote monitoring," said Ana Tavares Lattibeaudiere, Senior Director, Strategy and Technology, GSMA. "We're excited that the Global Mobile Awards will honour and showcase ground-breaking mobile-based devices, services and applications that can extend the reach of health services and potentially save lives across the globe."

Eligible entrants to this new category include mHealth equipment manufacturers, mHealth solution providers, mobile network operators, and chipset and module manufacturers.

The deadline for entries is Monday 22nd November 2010. Shortlists will be announced in January 2011 and the awards will be presented at the GSMA's Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona in February 2011.
