Forschungsbasierte Pharmaindustrie fordert ein verstärktes Engagement seitens des öffentlich-privaten Sektors, um die Millennium-Entwicklungsziele (MDGs) schneller zu erreichen und um eine neue Entwicklungsagenda aufzustellen

A, erklärte: "Die Vereinten Nationen fordern 'Engagement von verantwortungsvollen Unternehmen und der Zivilgesellschaft' und erkennt den 'Bedarf nach Synergiebildung wie niemals zuvor'[1]. Dieser Handlungsaufruf trifft in der forschungsbasierten Pharmabranche auf offene Ohren - da die Ausweitung des Zugangs zum Gesundheitswesen und die Erfüllung von nicht abgedecktem medizinischen Bedarf der Kern unseres täglichen Geschäfts sind."

Die Welt sollte die noch offenen und aktuellen gesundheitsbezogenen MDGs nicht aus dem Auge verlieren. Doch gleichzeitig werden neue Probleme wie Diabetes, Krebs, Atemerkrankungen und kardiovaskuläre Erkrankungen die Gesundheitssysteme weltweit in den nächsten fünfzehn Jahren fordern. Achtzig (80) Prozent der Todesfälle aufgrund dieser 'nichtübertragbaren' Krankheiten treten in Ländern mit niedrigen bis mittleren Einkommen auf und werden unvermeidbar den Druck erhöhen, diese Erkrankungen kosteneffektiv zu behandeln oder zu heilen.

Um Beteiligung des privaten Sektors bei der Erreichung weltweiter Ziele im Gesundheitsbereich zu erhöhen, brauchen wir proaktives, branchenübergreifendes Engagement bei der Ausarbeitung der neuen Entwicklungsziele", erklärte Eduardo Pisani. "Die ursprünglichen MDGs wurden ohne eine konkrete Idee dafür entwickelt, wie der private Sektor beitragen könnte. Die Pharmaunternehmen haben die Möglichkeiten erkannt und leisten diesen wichtigen Beitrag.. Doch wir wissen, dass es keinen Sektor gibt - weder Regierungen, noch die Zivilgesellschaft, noch die Industrie - der allein eine systemweite Veränderung hervorbringen kann, um die schwierigsten Herausforderungen im Gesundheitswesen anzugehen."
