Fora Care Group Becomes Pioneering Educational Member of the International Society of Vascular Health
Date:10/5/2009

NEWBURY PARK, Calif., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Fora Care Group has become a pioneering educational member of the prestigious International Society of Vascular Health (ISVH). The ISVH's primary aim is the achievement of high levels of vascular health in individuals and the population as a whole.

Educational members of ISVH promote the cardiovascular educational programs of ISVH as well as international protocols and recommendations for blood pressure monitoring to achieve optimal cardiovascular health. As an educational member, Fora Care will also co-exhibit with ISVH at medical meetings and will support China Week where experts convene to discuss recent discoveries in cardiovascular treatment and management.

"We welcome participation and membership from a range of disciplines and interests. Our aim is to help facilitate cooperation between the medical profession, health educators, the pharmaceutical, diagnostic and general health care professionals to actively promote vascular health and wellbeing," said Professor Roland Asmar, a world leading expert in the field of cardiology, Director of the Cardiovascular Institute in Paris and the President of the ISVH.

Fora Care primary products and services use advanced information technology, integrating diabetes and hypertension monitoring to establish a stronger healthcare management platform for professionals and patients.

"We are pleased to be able to support the ISVH, we strive to improve cardiovascular health and wellbeing by producing first class blood pressure and blood glucose monitors for telemedicine application," said Dr. Mike Chen, Founder of the Fora Care Group.

As an educational member of ISVH, Fora Care will inform and educate professionals and consumers on blood pressure protocols and standards for optimal cardiovascular health. Fora Care's newly developed blood pressure and blood glucose monitor contains an averaging function and uses the advanced inflate-deflate technology, which allows for superior reliability by the automatic data analysis of three successive measurements, which is considered the gold standard method for blood pressure measurement.

A recent joint statement from the American Heart Association, American Society of Hypertension and Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association, published in the journal Hypertension made a strong call-to-action for the use and reimbursement of home blood pressure monitors (HBPM). Included in the group's recommendations:

  • HBPM should be a routine component of BP measurement in the majority of patients with known or suspected hypertension
  • Patients should be advised to purchase oscillometric monitors that measure BP on the upper arm with an appropriate cuff size and that have been shown to be accurate according to standard international protocols and should be shown how to use them by their healthcare providers
  • Two to three readings should be taken while the subject is resting in the seated position, both in the morning and at night, over a period of 1 week. A total of 12 readings are recommended for making clinical decisions
  • HBPM is of value in patients with diabetes, in whom tight BP control is of paramount importance
  • Other populations in whom HBPM may be beneficial include pregnant women, children, and patients with kidney disease
  • HBPM has the potential to improve the quality of care while reducing costs and should be reimbursed.

Fora Care recently developed the next generation of two-in-one monitors for home use and clinical use, which have been validated according to the International protocol to show that they are accurate devices and have a positive impact on the patient-physician relationship. Fora Care's next generation products of blood pressure management and blood glucose monitoring make three consecutive measurements and provide a simple average which can be recalled by the device to provide 7-day, 14-day, 28-day averages.

Uniquely, Fora Care's next generation blood pressure and blood glucose monitors all contain special Arrhythmia Detection, which allows detection of potentially fatal arrhythmias. This technology detects irregular heartbeats during a blood pressure measurement. If pulse irregularities occur during the measurement, a symbol is displayed at the end of the measurement. Irregular heartbeat can indicate coronary heart disease or electrical heart disease, which can go undetected early in their course. Often described as "fluttering" in the chest or a feeling that the heart is "skipping a beat", these are signs of arrhythmia, or abnormal or irregular heartbeat. Many arrhythmias are harmless, however some can be life-threatening, and early diagnosis and management are the best ways to prevent serious problems.
