Date:3/4/2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Emdeon Inc., a leading provider of healthcare revenue and payment cycle management and clinical information exchange solutions, recently ranked first place in two separate industry surveys. Emdeon received first place rankings in overall vendor preference for interoperability, integration and connectivity in the Black Book Rankings 2013 State of Electronic Prescribing Industry, as well as overall EHR vendor support for Meaningful Use and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) support in the Black Book Rankings 2013 Overall Best EHR Functionality Performance.

"Emdeon has created broad interoperability for the exchange of health information," said Lathe Bigler, senior director of clinical services for Emdeon.  "Our network reaches approximately 90% of hospitals and physicians and virtually all pharmacies and payers. We are extremely pleased to be recognized by our customers for offering a breadth of interoperable solutions, including prescription, laboratory and radiology ordering systems, designed to help simplify the business of healthcare."

In addition, Emdeon continues to invest in and expand its information exchange capabilities and today announced that Emdeon Clinical Exchange™ customers now have access to the interactive prescribing resources from PDR Network, publishers of the Physicians' Desk Reference, PDR®, one of the most trusted names in drug information. Emdeon has integrated PDR® BRIEF and other resources to provide critical drug information within the ePrescribing workflow. The implementation of the PDR solutions offers Emdeon customers access to on-screen drug reference guides, search-on-demand databases of drug labeling and safety information, and provides the ability to report adverse drug events all from within Emdeon Clinical Exchange.

"Our integration within the Emdeon Clinical Exchange ePrescribe workflow allows healthcare providers to access critical healthcare information to provide optimal patient care," said Andrew Gelman , senior vice president of corporate development for PDR Network. "By placing updated drug information, safety alerts, medication adherence and product support programs at the point of care, we are increasing functionality and safety to meet the needs of Emdeon providers and their patients."

Finally, Emdeon also announced that its ePrescribing network currently supports the Accredited Standards Development Organization (ANSI), National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT XML version 10.6, which includes specific requirements to support Meaningful Use Stage 2. The Meaningful Use Stage 2 final rules define a common dataset for summary of care records, including how structured and coded data is to be formatted uniformly and sent securely between healthcare providers. Emdeon is proactively set to meet these requirements of transmitting electronic prescribing and clinical health information in the NCPDP 10.6 format and is believed to be the only national electronic prescribing network currently prepared to meet Stage 2 Meaningful Use.
