Elsevier Launches EduCode Doc Briefs to Help Physicians Implement ICD-10
Date:6/17/2013

PHILADELPHIA, June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Comprehensive training program includes documentation improvement support; program promoted through new 'Wake-Up Call' campaign and ICD-10 launch countdown app

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the launch of EduCode® Doc Briefs, an ICD-10 education series designed for physicians and other practitioners. EduCode Doc Briefs is available on its own or with EduCode Clinical Documentation Improvement, another offering in Elsevier's Clinical Documentation solution.

Elsevier's EduCode Clinical Documentation Solutions will be part of the new ICD-10 "Wake-up Call" campaign to encourage facilities and physicians to stay on track and begin learning and mastering the new ICD-10-CM/PCS systems, which will go into effect Oct. 14, 2014. Elsevier also will launch a Countdown Clock App for iOS and Android to detail the exact amount of time left before ICD-10 goes into effect - visit Elsevier's ICD-10 Online on Facebook and/or Countdown to ICD-10 on LinkedIn for updates on availability.

"Elsevier can reduce the stress of ICD-10 implementation by helping physicians better understand the specificity requirements of the new coding system," said Deborah Neville, Director of Revenue Cycle, Coding and Compliance at Elsevier. "We are confident that this program will help create more comprehensive and accurate documentation to enable and evaluate evidence-based patient care."

EduCode Doc Briefs are concise online lessons with associated Continuing Medical Education (CME) designed to help physicians and non-physician practitioners identify the clinical documentation needed to support an admission, justify a diagnostic work-up, validate treatments and services and accurately reflect a patient's severity of illness. Elements such as acuity, clinical indicators, synonyms, associated conditions, complications, treatments, and manifestations are covered. Improved documentation will allow more specific coding and reporting that is necessitated by the ICD-10-CM/PCS coding system.

Elsevier's EduCode Clinical Documentation solution provides practical information for both the physician authoring the health record and the coding specialist abstracting and analyzing the documentation. It addresses such topics as:

  • Obtaining accurate, complete and comprehensive documentation
  • Common terminology issues
  • Specialty-specific recommendations
  • Guidelines for physicians at teaching hospitals
  • Requirements provided by authoritative sources such as Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
