- El Movimiento Internacional por el Autocuidado pasa a ser global con el fin promover esta arma no explotada para combatir las enfermedades mortales

El Movimiento Internacional por el Autocuidado, lanzado en China el año pasado, pasa a ser global celebrando el 24 de julio (24/7) como el Día internacional por el autocuidado. Fomenta la responsabilidad individual para la salud elevando la concienciación de los pasos básicos para lograr el bienestar mediante el autocuidado y pedir a las autoridades públicas que reconozcan el papel crucial del autocuidado para reducir la carga socioeconómica de las enfermedades. El movimiento también apela a establecer el Día mundial del autocuidado de la ONU para concienciar sobre la importancia del autocuidado en el mundo.

Hoy, las enfermedades no comunicables (NCDs) producen el 63% de las muertes anuales en el mundo y están reconocidas como un agente mortal global y un gran reto sanitario, que afecta a las personas y a la sociedad, con la carga económica estimada en 30 billones de dólares en los próximos 20 años.  

Sin embargo, las NCDs son prevenibles en un gran alcance mediante un mejor autocuidado: hasta el 80% de la enfermedad coronaria, derrame y diabetes de tipo 2 y más de un tercio de los cánceres podría prevenirse por las personas evitando riesgos como el tabaco, la alimentación poco saludable, la inactividad física y el abuso del alcohol.
