Dramatic JUPITER Findings Fail to Sway Prescribing Behavior, Poll Shows
Date:11/25/2008

The JUPITER results, the G.P. continued, speak for themselves. "Billions of dollars will be saved," with fewer cardiovascular events, hospital days and engagement in rehab programs. "In practice, altering patient habits is not easy, and even when [patients] achieve the goal, how long will it be maintained? I inform the patient and let him decide."

MedPage Today polls are not scientific samplings of reader opinion; they are, rather, a snapshot of current thinking among the healthcare community. Totals may not add to 100% due to rounding and sample size.

About MedPage Today

MedPage Today is the only service for physicians that provides a clinical perspective on the breaking medical news that patients are reading. Co-developed by MedPage Today and The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Office of Continuing Medical Education, each article alerts clinicians to peer-reviewed, breaking medical news, with summaries and actionable information enabling them to better understand the implications.

Physicians and other healthcare professionals may also receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits at no cost by completing these educational programs. CME is required of physicians in approximately 30 states, and utilization of electronic CME is growing at an estimated 80% annual rate.

MedPage Today received a Platinum honor in the 2008 eHealthcare Leadership Awards, the largest Web-oriented awards program focused exclusively on healthcare. MedPage Today bested more than 17 category entrants--out of a total field of some 1,100 entrants--to win for Best Health/Healthcare Content--Physician/Clinician-Focused Site.
