Date:6/20/2013

PORTLAND, Ore., June 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambia Health Solutions is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Popiel, executive vice president of Health Care Services and chief medical officer for Cambia, has joined the board of directors for Care Team Connect.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a visionary leader like Dr. Popiel join our board," said Ben Albert, founder and CEO of Care Team Connect. "As we grow and expand our client base and product offerings, it will be invaluable to have Dr. Popiel's perspective guiding our company strategy."

Care Team Connect's integrated care management platform powers innovative population health strategies. By integrating data from disparate health systems, their secure, web-based platform enables creation of a shared patient-centric plan of care to power cross continuum care team coordination and collaboration. Care Team Connect enables Accountable Care Organizations, prevents hospital readmissions, and powers Patient-Centered Medical Home care coordination programs to identify and manage targeted patient populations by risk, payer, condition, and care setting.

"Care Team Connect is a rising star in the healthcare industry and addresses the critical challenge of population driven care management across care settings," said Dr. Popiel. "I am pleased with the progress they have made in such a short span of time and welcome the opportunity to be a part of the stellar team at Care Team Connect."

Dr. Popiel currently leads medical strategy and provides executive leadership on addressing care initiatives and cost management at Cambia.

Prior to Cambia, Dr. Popiel was at Horizon Healthcare Innovations, a Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey company, where he was president and chief operating officer. Under Dr. Popiel's leadership, Horizon Healthcare Innovations launched more than 30 pilot programs involving 80,000 members, such as medical home projects and accountable care organization (ACO) partnerships. This work, which improved health outcomes while curbing costs, has been cited by Harvard Business School.

Dr. Popiel earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees and a Doctor of Medicine at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also holds a master of business administration from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
