Dominion Diagnostics Leads Fight Against Prescription Drug Abuse with Safe Use Treatment Monitoring Solution
Date:9/7/2011

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I., Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Prescription monitoring laboratory and clinical partner Dominion Diagnostics has established a new comprehensive program, its Safe Use Treatment Monitoring Solution™. Consistent with Industry Guidelines in Pain Management, Safe Use is compliant with the FDA's Opioid Risk and Evaluation Mitigation Strategy (REMS) and individual State Prescribing Regulations for controlled substances.  The program aims to support concerned physicians across the United States trying to fight the rising toll of prescription drug abuse.

Dominion will launch its Safe Use program with Meet the Experts Sessions at PAINWeek 2011 this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sessions will be open to all participants on Thursday, September 8 at 3:30 pm and Friday, September 9 at 12:30 pm at Booth 1000 in the Exhibit Hall.

Featured guest speakers include Baker Fore, DO, a leading primary care specialist, pain management provider certified by the American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) and AAPM Diplomat; Ted Jones, PhD, a clinical psychologist with vast experience treating mental health, addiction and chronic pain; and Darren McCoy, FNP-BC, a chronic pain nurse practitioner and an active editorial board member for Pain Management Nursing.  Fore, Jones and McCoy will discuss the clinical application of Dominion's Safe Use program and answer questions from participants.

"Too often in medicine we seem to make simple things difficult," Dr. Fore shared. "SAFE USE makes treating pain patients simple again."  Fore will present a scientific poster at the meeting that illustrates increased prescription adherence and minimized diversion and misuse resulting from the implementation of Safe Use guidelines in his practice in Oklahoma.

Partners in the Safe Use program will work with Dominion to promote the safe and effective use of chronic pain medications through educating their local community on the proper use of prescription medications.  In addition, they will have access to risk stratification tools, outcomes-based treatment, and patient education assistance.
