Disposable Film Festival Health Announces 2011 Award Winners

  • 2nd Place Award - Joao Monteiro - "Size Zero" - This animated film is based on Dr. Luca Savorelli paper, "Thinness and Obesity: A model of food consumption, health concerns and social pressure." The film queries whether increasing the ideal body weight is socially desirable, both from a welfare and health point of view. 
  • 3rd Place Award - Zubin Damania, MD (ZDoggMD) - "Immunize" –The film uses humor and music to diffuse the controversy over vaccination.  Leading Bay Area physicians sing about the dangers of pseudoscience and encourage public health.

    • "Connecting the creative community to the healthcare industry will deliver enormous benefits for physicians and patients," said Ryan Howard, CEO of Practice Fusion. "Our work with The Disposable Film Festival will accelerate that trend by giving artists a voice to raise awareness and educate the general public about important health issues."

    Pulatus will be awarded a $5,000 cash prize for his winning entry. All finalists' films are available to view online. The competition was collaboration with the Disposable Film Festival, named one of America's "coolest film festivals," that hosts events around the world to showcase filmmaking using accessible, non-professional equipment such as cell phone cameras.
