L'ESCMID et une équipe internationale d'experts originaires de 11 pays européens ont développé la révision du document de directives de traitement avec pour objectif de fournir une vue d'ensemble des options de traitement de l'ICD et pour développer une mise à jour des recommandations de traitement en s'appuyant sur des preuves. Les options de traitement envisagées incluent : les antibiotiques, les résines et les polymères de liaison des toxines, l'immunothérapie, les probiotiques et la transplantation intestinale fécale ou bactérienne.[3]
