ConvaTec Announces Acquisition of AbViser Medical, LLC
Date:5/1/2012

SKILLMAN, N.J., May 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ConvaTec, a world-leading developer and marketer of innovative medical technologies for community and hospital care today announced that it has acquired AbViser Medical, LLC (formerly a part of Wolfe Tory Medical), a Salt Lake City, UT-based company that specializes in products for the critical care marketplace.

The AbViser™ Intra-abdominal Pressure (IAP) Monitoring System enables clinicians to measure and monitor IAP in patients at risk for intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) or abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS). Monitoring allows clinicians to intervene in a manner which may improve patient outcomes. Benefits from managing IAH include reducing patient ventilator time and length of stay, decreased rate of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) and mortality risk.[1],[2]

As a leader in IAP monitoring in the critical care setting, AbViser Medical is an ideal complement to the ConvaTec Continence and Critical Care business and its ICU product portfolio that includes market leading brands such as the UnoMeter™ Abdo-Pressure™ System, UnoMeter™ Urine Meter and the world's most widely used fecal management system, Flexi-Seal™ FMS.

About the AbViser™ IAP Monitoring System

The AbViser™ IAP Monitoring System is a sterile non-invasive disposable monitoring device that creates a safe, efficient, standardized monitoring system with proven clinical accuracy. Using the AbViser™ IAP Monitoring System, measurements are obtained in approximately 30 seconds. This easily obtained data allows clinicians to trend the pressures and intervene in a timely fashion – preventing the end stage organ dysfunction seen with abdominal compartment syndrome.
