ContinuumRx Forms Healthcare Joint Venture with Mississippi Baptist Health Systems
Date:9/6/2011

JACKSON, Miss. and BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ContinuumRx and Mississippi Baptist Health Systems (MBHS) of Jackson, Mississippi announced the opening of a new home infusion pharmacy that will serve providers and patients throughout Central Mississippi in a collaborative model designed to improve patient outcomes with a more seamless transition from hospital to home.

"This partnership will not only improve our core operations and patient care, but also benefit the overall health care system at large," said Eric McVey, M.D., Baptist Chief Medical Officer. "We took the time to understand the gaps and problems with how patients and providers access specialized home infusion drugs and quickly saw opportunities for improved care. When we reviewed ContinuumRx in operation with another health system partner, it validated our beliefs in terms of what their model could deliver for Baptist."

Home Infusion services are typically ordered for those patients with high-cost chronic disease states such as cancer, gastrointestinal (GI) problems, heart failure, immunodeficiency disorders, neuromuscular disorders and serious infections. A patient's clinical information moves seamlessly across inpatient and outpatient settings as part of ContinuumRx's integrated services model. Ongoing home therapy progress information is provided to each patient's primary care and specialty physicians electronically or through available consultations, giving physicians access to important clinical information.

"It's invaluable for hospitals to have a specialized outpatient pharmacy as part of their continuum of care," said Brian Booth, ContinuumRx Senior Vice President. "Providers can then be assured that patients with chronic and complex disease states and conditions have their critical medications available before leaving the hospital. Access to and compliance with these high-cost treatments is fundamental to both better patient outcomes and managing the overall cost of treatment. ContinuumRx is committed to better serving patients through close cooperation with hospital systems. We are very pleased to have MBHS as our joint venture partner in the central Mississippi market."
