University of Rochester Medical Center study reports this juice has

beneficial effects on older adults with insomnia

NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- CherryPharm -- a proprietary all-natural tart cherry juice blend based on the proven health benefits of cherries -- has been shown to improve aspects of sleep, according to a study by the University of Rochester Medical Center. This double-blind placebo controlled clinical trial tested the effectiveness of CherryPharm in older adults with insomnia. Results showed that for the first time a food had positive effects on measures of sleep with no harmful side effects. Tart cherries contain a variety of powerful antioxidants including sleep regulating melatonin and other naturally occurring phyto-nutrients. CherryPharm, Inc. has worked with Cornell University to develop a unique juice extraction and pouring technique designed to retain the healthy compounds found in whole tart cherries.

During the study, conducted by the Sleep & Neurophysiology Research Laboratory at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY, subjects were given a bottle of CherryPharm or placebo in the morning and another in the evening and were asked to track their sleep patterns in a diary. Compared to placebo, CherryPharm decreased the time it took to fall asleep (Sleep Latency) and decreased the time spent awake after falling asleep (Wake After Sleep Onset). With probability or "P" values of .047 and .011 respectively, these results are statistically significant. Modest trends, although not statistically significant, were also shown in favor of CherryPharm versus placebo with Sleep Efficiency and Total Sleep Time.
