CIVCO's Protura™ and Universal Couchtop™ Installed at Boca Raton Regional Hospital

KALONA, Iowa, April 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CIVCO Medical Solutions' Protura Robotic Patient Positioning System and Universal Couchtop (UCT) have been installed at Lynn Cancer Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. Protura and UCT have been in clinical use since August at this Florida community hospital.

"Having the additional degrees of freedom made possible by the CIVCO Protura 6 degrees of freedom table has been an important advance for our program," said Dr. Tim R. Williams, M.D., Medical Director, Lynn Cancer Institute, Boca Raton Regional Hospital. "We do over a hundred cases of SRS and SBRT a year and many cases require the additional precision that can only be achieved with roll, pitch and yaw motion. Particularly in base of skull tumors, the added accuracy of these table adjustments brings us to a level as high as or higher than any competing technology."

Protura fully enables IGRT by providing sub-millimeter corrections with 6 degrees of freedom. CIVCO's Universal Couchtop is SBRT enabled and IGRT friendly. The lightweight UCT features compatibility with Body Pro-Lok™ bridges for comfortable immobilization for hypofractionation.

Protura and UCT have provided the center with additional confidence and the ability to treat the most challenging cases.
