Burlington Medical Supplies Introduces Single Swing-Arm Drape
Date:6/28/2011

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., June 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --  Burlington Medical Supplies, headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, has introduced a new product into its inventory. The Single Swing-Arm Drape attaches to a medical procedure table's arm extension and protects the worker from any scattered beams of radiation during patient x-rays and computed tomography (CT) scans.

The black vinyl drape is 39-and-a-half inches wide by 28 inches long. The non-absorbent drapes are made of .5 mm lead. Used in multiples, they overlap each other in a horizontal manner, similar to pleats in a kilt, and hang from the procedure table swing arm. This is used in addition to lead aprons and radiation glasses worn by the medical technologist.

"We don't have another product like this," said Dennis Swartz, one of Burlington Medical's owners. "Most of our other drapes and barriers are not made to form and move with the swing arm attached to the procedure table. They are mostly garments and barrier drapes."

The Virginia-based company recently designed and began manufacture and distribution of the product as a result of a customer request. The company researched the idea and discovered that there were no products available for below-the-waist radiation protection that were attached to equipment rather than worn on the person's body. The Single Swing-Arm Drape is now available online through the company's website.
