Boehringer Ingelheim Awarded Perfect Score for Workplace Equality for the LGBT Community
Date:12/8/2016

RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Dec. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boehringer Ingelheim announced today that it has been recognized on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This is the ninth time that the company received a perfect score and has been designated as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality. Administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the CEI is a national benchmarking report on corporate policies and practices related to workplace equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.

"We are committed to creating an environment where our employees feel supported and valued," said Nancy Di Dia, U.S. chief diversity and inclusion officer, Boehringer Ingelheim. "This means not only respecting the uniqueness of one another, but also the diversity of ideas and experiences that help us to more effectively serve patients. Fostering a diverse and inclusive environment is a critical part of our success, both today, and in the future."

"Through 15 editions of the annual Corporate Equality Index, major private sector employers have demonstrated over and over that inclusion is not just the right thing to do, it makes for a stronger, more successful business," said Deena Fidas, Director of HRC's Workplace Equality Program. "From centuries-old companies to those that have existed for just a few years, major employers have adopted LGBT-inclusive policies and benefits at rates that continue to outpace lawmakers and lead the way forward."

The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBT community. Boehringer Ingelheim's efforts in satisfying as well as exceeding all of the CEI's criteria resulted in a 100 percent score. The company is among only 517 major U.S. businesses that earned top marks this year.

Boehringer Ingelheim's CEI perfect score is the latest accolade in a series of recent honors, including Science magazine's Top Employer list; and Working Mother magazine's 100 Best Companies.
