Beyond BMI - the New seca medical Body Composition Analyzer
Date:12/4/2013

HAMBURG, Germany, Dec. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- seca, the world's market leader in medical measuring and weighing, recognizes that Body Mass Index (BMI) alone is not enough for an extensive analysis of a patient's health status and body composition. BMI calculations do not consider age, gender, frame size, muscle mass or fat distribution. Nor does it distinguish between lean body mass and fat mass. This is exactly why seca has developed the medical Body Composition Analyzer, the seca mBCA 514. The seca mBCA measures: fat mass, fat free mass, total body water, intracellular water, extracellular water with reference method accuracy in less than 20 seconds.

BMI does not take into account body composition and does not differentiate between overall fat mass and muscle. Thus, BMI alone can lead to an inaccurate health risk assessment. The seca mBCA offers disease risk stratifications, precise monitoring of physiologic responses and compliance to therapy and a comprehensive assessment of the general health and nutritional status that physicians need to evaluate a patient's fat distribution and total cardiovascular risk factors.

Simple, fast and user-friendly, the seca mBCA 514 produces medically relevant results and is validated against the medical science gold standard. Equipped with an 8-point electrode Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis measurement method, the seca mBCA 514 includes six practice-specific modules that offer innumerable diagnostic options. With precise ratios such as fat mass to weight or extracellular to intracellular water, physicians can now obtain indications of medical disorders which were previously difficult to diagnose without additional examinations. The seca mBCA is EMR compatible and includes a stand-alone Body Composition EMR system.
