Back Braces and Wrap-Arounds Move Into the 21st Century

No More Corsets for Lower Back Pain Sufferers, the hug(TM) is the First Significant Design Change to Back Support in 200 Years

NEW YORK, November 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- KOALA Health Accessories announces the launch of its flagship product, the hug(TM), a non-invasive treatment for lower back pain. An anatomically designed lower back device, the hug(TM) provides focused support where specifically required without applying pressure on the abdomen. The first significant design change to back support in 200 years, the hug(TM) replaces the traditional corset-like wrap-arounds and back braces. This gives the user complete freedom of movement, to sit, stand, eat, breathe and exercise while actively participating in the strengthening of their core muscles and simultaneously improving their posture.

Unlike existing back supports, the hug(TM) applies light pressure to the lower back reminding the user to gently pull away from the source of pressure, promoting a healthy lordosis (curvature of spine) and enhancing posture.

"The hug(TM) is not just another back product or device, it is a whole new concept in back health," said Prof. David Segal M.D., renowned orthopedic surgeon, and inventor of the hug(TM). "For those suffering from lower back pain, the hug(TM) introduces a lifestyle change. It acts as a stimulus and encourages the user to develop healthy back habits. It helps correct bad posture and enables the sufferer to become an active participant in his/her own treatment. I have no doubt that the hug(TM) will change the lives of many of the more than 53 million Americans suffering from back pain at any given moment."

Preliminary tests were conducted, with participants testifying to an improved posture and as well as a greater preference of the hug(TM) over traditional wrap-arounds. A larger clinical study is currently being conducted by independent surgeons at a large hospital.

The hug(TM) is available at selected retail outlets such as Relax the Back, Brookstone, Hammacher Schlemmer, Sharper Image, Solutions and others.
