Avon Protection Systems Issues Correction/Clarification on ST53 SCBA System

BALTIMORE, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Avon Protection Systems wishes to correct and clarify its news release issued on March 10, 2009 regarding the ST53 SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) system and any implications about NIOSH approval, specifically:

  1. Avon - ISI, a subsidiary of the Avon Rubber group, received the NIOSH approvals for the ST53 SCBA system (TC-13F-0573, TC-13F-0574, TC-13F-0575) and not Avon Protection Systems;
  2. The ST53 SCBA system does not currently have NIOSH approval for CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) agents. It has, however, been tested independently by RDECOM (Research, Development and Engineering Command) to specific chemical agents; and
  3. The system is not currently approved by NIOSH as a combination system. It is NIOSH approved as a positive pressure system only, with the approval holder and manufacturer of the ST53 SCBA system being Avon - ISI.
