Außerdem werden Dr. Lakhmir Chawla , außerordentlicher Professor für Medizin an der George Washington University, sowie Dr. Max Bell , Forschungsleiter und Arzt in der Abteilung für Anästhesiologie, Chirurgie und Intensivmedizin am Karolinska-Universitätskrankenhaus in Solna (Schweden), beim Symposium sprechen.

Immer mehr Ärzte in aller Welt weisen auf die hohen Gesundheitsrisiken und Kosten im Zusammenhang mit AKI hin.

„Ein Nierenversagen während eines Klinikaufenthalts tritt ebenso häufig auf und ist für die Patienten ebenso gefährlich wie ein Herzinfarkt", betont Dr. Kellum. „Im Gegensatz zu einem Herzinfarkt verläuft das AKI jedoch ohne Anzeichen oder Symptome, die die Risikoeinschätzung stützen würden. Ärzte sollten daher stets über die neuesten Risikoeinschätzungs- und Managementverfahren für diese Erkrankung informiert bleiben."
