Area Residents Can Give a Little, Help A Lot at Shire's BIG GIVE

PHILADELPHIA, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Even with a steadily improving economy, 130,000 children and families across the Greater Philadelphia region are struggling to make ends meet. This spring, Shire Pharmaceuticals is issuing a "call to action" for residents in Southeastern Pennsylvania with its third annual BIG GIVE regional donation drive to benefit Cradles to Crayons.

Most Cradles to Crayons recipients have incomes of $15,000 or below and need basic necessities like socks, backpacks, jackets and more. A little time devoted to spring cleaning to gather new or gently used items for donation can make a huge difference for children and families who need it most.

On Friday, May 21 from 12 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Shire hosts the third annual BIG GIVE at Wilson Farm Park in the Chesterbrook Corporate Center in Wayne, Pa.

"In our first two years we helped 14,000 children through the incredible generosity of people throughout the region. We urge everyone to help us make this the 'biggest give' yet," said Mike Cola, president of Shire Pharmaceuticals.

Donations received at the BIG GIVE will be sorted and distributed by Cradles to Crayons volunteers and Shire employees to established non-profits such as Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the People's Emergency Center, and the School District of Philadelphia. Those groups provide specific items upon request directly to individual children a
