NEWARK, Calif., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Seals North America, Inc., a supplier of perfluoroelastomer sealing products used in ultraclean manufacturing of nanoelectronics and biomedical products, has strengthened its engineering and applications capabilities at its Silicon Valley headquarters with the hiring of design engineer Wei Chen.

Chen joins the company's product engineering team to provide additional technical expertise in identifying customers' sealing needs and designing reliable, cost-effective solutions. Collaborating with parent company GMORS in Taiwan, Chen also will work to increase the reach of Applied Seals' Perfrez™ products in the North American semiconductor, photovoltaic, pharmaceutical and chemicals markets and to identify new market opportunities.

"With Wei's hiring, we continue to bridge our global applications center in Silicon Valley with our manufacturing operations in Taiwan," said Dalia Vernikovsky, president and general manager of Applied Seals North America. "Increasing the engineering expertise at our California facility improves our ability to design and implement the optimal sealing solutions for our customers."

Chen brings to Applied Seals his experience in high-vacuum valve design, testing and failure analysis for semiconductor and solar applications, which he gained working at SMC Corporation of America, a provider of pneumatic products for the automation industry. Chen is a certified fluid power pneumatic specialist, solid modeling specialist and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing technologist. He earned his master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.
