Amerigroup Foundation Presents Grant to Rx Partnership in Virginia
Date:10/10/2011

WYTHEVILLE, Va., Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Amerigroup Foundation today announced that it has provided a $2,500 grant to the Rx Partnership to benefit the Brock Hughes Free Clinic in Wytheville, Va.

"One of the most significant benefits to our patients is the ability to offer free medicine on site," said Karen Brooks, executive director of the Brock Hughes Free Clinic. "Without the medication assistance from the Rx Partnership and the Amerigroup Foundation our patients would have difficulty obtaining the medications they desperately need to treat chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes."

The Rx Partnership is an organization that works to provide uninsured Virginians with access to medication through community-based clinics by serving as a broker to access and distribute free bulk prescription medications to 20 affiliated community-based clinics. Rx Partnership's unique bulk replacement method results in a streamlined, efficient and cost-effective process that delivers more medications to a greater number of patients in need. More than $50 million in free medication has been provided to more than 35,500 uninsured Virginians since the program began in 2002.

"The Rx Partnership tirelessly works to focus attention on the access of medication for the uninsured," said John E. Littel, chairman of the Amerigroup Foundation. "We are pleased that the Foundation was able to play a part in supporting this mission."

The Amerigroup Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the Rx Partnership earlier this year. The grant is being dispersed in quarterly installments to support increased access to prescription drugs at four free clinics in Virginia. The Brock Hughes Free Clinic is the recipient of the third quarterly installment.

"I express my deepest appreciation to the Amerigroup Foundation for selecting the Brock Hughes Free Clinic as a recipient of the grant," said Sen. William Roscoe Reynolds. "I appreciate also the great work th
