Allen Technologies Engaging Veterans at VA Hampton Medical Center

HAMPTON, Va., Jan. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Allen Technologies, the leader in interactive patient engagement solutions for nearly 40 years, announced today that Veterans Affairs Hampton Medical Center has launched Allen's Interactive Patient Engagement Solutions to further educate, engage and empower veterans in their healthcare.

Allen's flexible and easy-to-use platform, deployed on televisions at VA Hampton Medical Center, will help the hospital improve patient satisfaction and achieve operational efficiencies through enhanced entertainment options, health education customized to each patient's needs, and innovative hospital system integration. Through Allen's integration with the hospital's VistA electronic health record platform (EHR), nurses will be able to assign patient education videos directly from the patient's EHR. The integration will increase nursing workflow efficiency, freeing more time for nursing care at the bedside and leading to improved outcomes and greater patient satisfaction.

In addition, Allen's integration with Computrition, the hospital's food service platform, will enable patients to conveniently customize and order meals directly from their television. Allen offers a flexible and affordable upgrade path for future interactive tools as well, such as patient-adjusted climate control, housekeeping & maintenance requests, and real-time feedback surveys.

"Research has shown that small things, like enabling a patient to control their meal selection, can make a big impact on patient satisfaction, and providing education in an entertaining and accessible way improves patients' understanding of their condition and care, and lowers the chance for readmission after discharge," said Allen President and CEO Jerry Folsom. "We are thrilled to be working with VA Hampton to transform the patient experience and empower the veterans that it serves."

Veterans Affairs Hampton Medical Center, a 468-bed general medical and surgical teaching hospital in Hampton, Virginia, is the fourth oldest facility in the VA healthcare system, providing healthcare services to more than 220,000 veterans in eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
